Featured Speakers

Robert Novak

Big Data Consulting Systems Engineer, Cisco Robert Novak recently "retired" from nearly two decades as a full-stack system administrator (about half of it in big data administration) to advance and advocate big data and analytics practices for Cisco's partner organization. Robert began working with propritary big data platforms in 2003 at a search provider. His first business-critical Hadoop cluster went into production in late 2009. He entered the Cisco ecosystem in 2011, building one of the earliest and still one of the largest UCS Manager-integrated C-Series environments in the wild. He blogs on hard and soft technology topics at rsts11.com.

Jim Scott

Director of Enterprise Strategy & Architecture, MapR Jim is the cofounder of the Chicago Hadoop Users Group (CHUG), where he has coordinated the Chicago Hadoop community for the past 4 years. Jim has held positions running Operations, Engineering, Architecture and QA teams. Jim has worked in the Consumer Packaged Goods, Digital Advertising, Digital Mapping, Chemical and Pharmaceutical industries. Jim has built systems that handle more than 50 billion transactions per day. Jim's work with high-throughput computing at Dow Chemical was a precursor to more standardized big data concepts like Hadoop.
